How to integrate Verifalia with Zapier

What is Zapier?

Zapier is an online utility that allows you to link and configure various online services to work together. You can easily create links (called Zaps) between Verifalia’s email list cleaner and more than 2,000 apps like spreadsheet apps, email service providers, and CRMs, without developer help. In this way, your email verification process will become automatic.

Every Zap consists of at least two stages or steps; the first stage is called the Trigger while the second stage is referred to as the Action performed by the trigger. By creating a zap with Verifalia, you will be able to validate your email lists in real-time in response to a trigger fired by any of the 2,000 apps Zapier supports.

As an integration example, in this article we will show you how to create a zap between Verifalia and Google Sheets, so that every time you add or change an email address on a list hosted on Google Sheets you will have the email validated by Verifalia and get its deliverability status on the adjacent column. With this zap, we aim to achieve three things:

  • pull in every new (or updated) email address from the spreadsheet;
  • use our email list cleaner to verify the new emails;
  • return the verification results from Verifalia into the spreadsheet.

What do you need to create an integration between Verifalia and Google sheets?

  • A Zapier account: you can create a free account – this usually has limited features but is suitable for many purposes; the Zap we are creating now works with a free Zapier account.
  • A Verifalia account: you can start with a free account, which includes up to 25 email verifications per day.
  • A Google account: A Google account and spreadsheet in Google Drive will be needed specifically for our Zap. Before you begin, it is necessary to set the following columns with headers;
    • Email column – this is the source where Zapier will get your emails from;
    • Deliverability column - this is the destination, where Zapier will paste the validation deliverability results from Verifalia, like Deliverable, Undeliverable and Risky;
    • Status code column (optional) - this an additional destination column which may be added in the event you wish to obtain the exact reason why Verifalia returned a specific deliverability result, like MailboxDoesNotExist, MailExchangerIsHoneypot, etc. - see the complete list;

Now let’s get started with the step-by-step guide to help you create a Zap between Google Sheets and Verifalia.

Step 1.

Log into your Zapier account and click the “MAKE A ZAP” button from the menu shown on the left side of the page; if you don’t have a Zapier account, create a free account here.

Next, set up the Trigger, which is executed by Google Sheets: on the “Choose app & event” section click on “Google Sheets”. If not, in the “Search Hundreds of apps” field, type Google Sheets. Once the app comes up on the list, select it.

Choose the Google Sheets trigger named New or Updated Spreadsheet Row, which will make the app execute the Action whenever a spreadsheet is updated, then click “Continue.”

Step 4.

Click on “Choose Account” and put in the credentials for your Google account, then grant Zapier permission to access your Google Sheets. Then, click on “Continue”.

Now choose the specific spreadsheet which you want to use in the zap: click on the drop-down icon beside the spreadsheet space, then select the spreadsheet you want to use. The system will automatically display all the spreadsheet files which you have stored in Google Drive. Afterward, choose the worksheet that you want the system to look into, from the available ones. Finally, choose as the trigger column the one which contains the email addresses. Then, click “Continue.”

On the “Find Data” section, click on “TEST & CONTINUE”. A summary of the trigger setup will be displayed: check the details to see if everything is correct then click “Done Editing”. The Action section will pop up if every detail is in order, otherwise an error message will be displayed: in such a case, recheck the settings from the previous steps, make the necessary corrections, then perform the test again. Once the setup is correct, click “Continue”.

Now it is time to set up the Action step. At this stage, the system is aware of which spreadsheet to access and where to check for changes or new additions. This means that you only need to inform the system about the action to perform with the new or updated information. In the “Choose App & App” section, search for “Verifalia” and select it.

Select the option “Verify Email Address”, then click “Continue”, followed by “Choose Account”, so that you can finally link your Verifalia account with Zapier. In the subsequent screen, type your Verifalia App key: if you don’t have one, you can create a new browser app and grab its App key from your Verifalia account, under the “Browser apps” section. Next, select “Yes, Continue”.

Configure your source data: in the “Email Address To Verify” field select the column which contains the email addresses in your spreadsheet. Afterward, click on “Continue”.

Zapier will display a page to check if your setup is alright. Check the main field for an email address, then click on “TEST & CONTINUE”. If everything is correct, a “Test was successful” message will come up on the next screen. Also, the outcome of a test email verification will be shown: tap “Done Editing” to continue.

Step 11.

At this point, Zapier will ask if you want to turn on your Zap: before turning it on, we need to engage one more step, so that the zap will append the verification outcomes to your spreadsheet. Click on “BACK TO SETUP” and then move your cursor to the bottom, then tap the “+” icon to include a new Action step.

Choose an app that performs the selected action: search “Google Sheets”, and click “Update Spreadsheet Row”, then click “Continue”.

Select your Google Account and click “Continue”.

In order to update the original source spreadsheet, choose the same file and worksheet selected in the Trigger step, as mentioned above. Afterward, click “Custom” under the Row, click the drop-down icon under “New or Updated Spreadsheet Row in Google Sheets” and select “Row ID” on the list.

Scroll down to pick the field which will host the email address deliverability result in your spreadsheet. From the drop-down menu “Result”, select the “Classification” field and click “Continue”; should you wish to paste back the exact verification result code (like MailboxDoesNotExist, MailExchangerIsHoneypot, etc. - see the complete list), just pick the “Status” field instead.

After Zapier finishes checking the setup, click “Done Editing.”

At this point, the Zap is ready! Tap the switch to activate your Zap.

Step 16.

We recommend that you perform a manual test of your zap, to make sure everything works properly: open your spreadsheet in Google Sheets and insert a new row into your Email column. Wait for a couple of minutes (the exact time depending on your Zapier plan), then check your spreadsheet: the email verification results should have been pasted back into the intended cells.
